FAQ
Will I learn from my editor? |
You will learn a lot about writing from our editors. We’ll help you understand the grammar rules and the rationale for our suggested changes in order to improve your writing skills.
Do you do developmental editing? |
Yes, Riverside Editors offer a wide ranger of editorial services providing a focus on developmental editing and the overall organization of your work; the mechanics of writing such as spelling, grammar, sentence structure, flow, and readability; and spelling, grammar, and format consistency. Our editors are able to identify areas of writing that are difficult to understand, require more background information or development, or seem disorganized. They may also point out where your theme or argument or is weak or inconsistent.
How frank are your critiques? |
We give honest feedback. Rather than tell you what we think you want to hear, we’ll tell you what we think you need to hear. We read your work and give a detailed manuscript assessment full of detailed editorial advice. We also tell you what we think of your manuscript’s commercial potential and how of your work you can improve it.
What will the critique include? |
A full characterization, plot, pacing and structural analysis; detailed suggestions for further work; a genuine, honest editorial blow-by-blow reaction. We’ll tell you what works and what doesn’t.
Is there a maximum or minimum page requirement? |
We edit a variety of documents and manuscripts of all lengths.
How do we get started? |
We ask that you email us the opening section of your manuscript. We don’t charge for this initial reading. If we decide we can help you, we’ll send you a project proposal based on this initial reading and the number of pages of your manuscript.
How long will it take? |
We’ll get started editing once you make your initial payment and we receive your manuscript by email. We know you’ll be waiting for our timely response, and will send our report and edits back to you within one-three weeks depending on the length of the document or manuscript.
How many times do I need to rewrite, and how much time do I have
You need to rewrite until your text is polished. JK Rowling rewrote the first chapter of her first Harry Potter book 15 times. Once we’ve sent you our edits, the ball is in your court to implement the suggestions that our editors have made in order to unlock your full creative potential. We give you ample time to use this springboard to take your novel to the next level. Most authors are inspired by our comments and find that three weeks is sufficient. Rewriting should be an enjoyable and liberating process. |
Does Riverside edit manuscripts by non-native speakers? |
Yes, we can be especially helpful for students who are non-native English speakers and have particular concerns about expressing themselves clearly in English. We can help you improve the readability of your dissertation, novel, or material as well as your confidence in the final product.
